Leadership Team

  • Genevieve has more than 20 years of experience in the international development sector, working with UN agencies, government and civil society organizations in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada.

    She has worked in senior leadership, advisory, and training capacities and has extensive experience leading organizations through complex, large-scale project design, management and partnership building processes in housing and human settlements, gender equality, climate resilience, and inclusive and sustainable cities.

    She has co-founded and led a government relations and project management consulting firm serving the Canadian NGO sector, taught aspiring development leaders as Adjunct Faculty in the International Development Graduate Program at Humber College, and worked in project operations in Canada and internationally. She holds a MSc in Urban Planning from the University of Toronto, a MA in International Development from Dalhousie University and a BA Honours in International Development from Trent University.

  • Giselle is a seasoned professional with deep knowledge and experience in the field of not-for-profit for over 15 years. Currently leading operations and finance at Rooftops, she previously fulfilled similar and adjacent roles in other charitable organizations, engaging in impactful work that focused on many diverse issues such as migrant and newcomer settlement, international development and advocacy for social justice and human rights. Giselle believes in utilizing an intersectional lens in organizational development and holds a strong commitment to equitable values. As Rooftops approaches its 40th year, she is looking forward to contributing meaningful and sustainable structure and growth to the organization.

  • Efemena is Rooftops Senior Project Officer in charge of the Women’s Spaces: Implementing Equal Rights to Land, Housing and Livelihoods in Angola, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda. Efemena is a seasoned international development expert distinguished by her proficiency and qualifications at the crossroads of law, human rights, human resource management, and community organizing.

    Over the past decade, she has achieved remarkable success in steering large and mid-scale projects supported by international development donors implemented across North America and several African countries, showcasing her expertise in advancing and safeguarding human rights across diverse domains. In her career in the non-profit sector, she has developed proposals and legal documents, crafted engagement frameworks, policy and legislative papers. She has actively engaged in social audits, effectively managed and implemented projects, and provided training and strategic learning opportunities to communities and organizations, among other responsibilities. Efemena is also a pro bono trainer at the African Coaching Network.

  • Rebecca is a graduate from McMaster University with a Master of Science in Global Health. Prior to her graduate studies, Rebecca completed her undergraduate degree at Humber College with a Bachelor of Arts in International Development. Her studies have focused on issues facing women in the global south, including maternal health and climate change. She also research the impact of unequal distribution of vital vaccines in Africa during the Covid-19 pandemic.

    Rebecca has prior international experience, working in Bolivia and Ghana with NGOs focusing on empowering women and providing them with the knowledge and skills to improve their economic standing. Further experience includes assisting in the development of a curriculum for an Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) program for Tanzania youth and assisting in the creation of a SRHR program to assist underserved groups in Toronto.

    Rebecca adopts a systems thinking approach to understanding complex problems by analyzing relationships between structures, processes and behaviours.
