Rooftops Canada works with Canadian and International partners to help thousands of families in the Global South secure affordable housing in sustainable communities

WE HAVE MOVED!

33 Bloor Street East, 5th Floor

Toronto, ON M4W 3H1

Rooftops Canada focuses on Sub-Saharan Africa where 70% of urban families - about 300 million people - live in slums. It is very challenging for these families to thrive when every day they face overcrowding, insecure tenure, violence, lack of basic services and have few opportunities to earn a living. Working with extraordinary local partners - including housing and civil society organizations, local governments, credit and trade unions, universities, and the private sector - we’re able to support urban people living in poverty, especially women, secure their rights to live in peace and dignity.

Women’s Spaces Project

Women’s Spaces Project: Implementing Equal Rights to Land, Housing and Livelihoods, is a five-year (2022-2027), project in partnership with Global Affairs Canada. The project will enhance women’s rights to and control over land and housing in urban environments in Angola, Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda.

“The Women's Spaces Project will be a turning point for women in Uganda. Since access to and control of land, housing and basic services will be greatly improved, women will be better able to take care of their families, deal with economic and health challenges, and increase their participation in important decisions about their communities. Securing women’s tenure and supporting women to advocate for their housing rights will demonstrate strategies to achieve gender equality which SSA:UHSNET can use to influence local and national officials to create much needed change.”
