Who We Are
The international program of Canada’s housing movement
Rooftops Canada is the international program of Canada’s co-operative and community housing movement. Born in the 1980s, we carry forward the values of solidarity, equity and community-led action that shaped the community housing sector in Canada.
Housing is a human right, yet billions of families face insecure tenure, instability and discrimination, with women at greatest risk. We work with partners in Angola, Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda to advance housing rights and build resilient communities.
Our Impact
Solidarity, and the proof it works
Canadian housing organizations have backed this work for four decades. Here is what that support has built.
Because of you, 109,860 people
are benefiting from stronger legal frameworks, trained local authorities, and gender-responsive housing policies through the Women’s Spaces project.

Nalubwama Annet - Uganda - Shelter and Settlements Alternatives
Nalubwama Annet’s Story of Change
I was having disagreements with my partner, and eventually he forced me and my four children to leave our home. We also lost access to the land where we had been growing food. After that, he stopped supporting me and the children, including paying their school fees and helping provide for their basic needs.
