Rooftops Canada recently participated in the High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, marking 10 years since the agenda was adopted at Habitat III in Quito. 

A major outcome of the meeting was the adoption of the UN General Assembly's Political Declaration, which recognizes the global housing crisis and reaffirms that adequate housing is essential to reducing poverty, strengthening food security, supporting sustainable economic growth, improving health, and building climate resilience. The declaration also emphasizes the importance of international cooperation to advance the right to adequate housing for all. 

The participation of the Canadian government was encouraging, and a reminder of Canada's past leadership in housing, which includes hosting the first UN Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat I) in Vancouver in 1976.
