Learning, Adapting, and Supporting Partners: My Transition with HIC

During this period, I worked with the HIC GS team to prepare for the Palestine Teach-in Sessions, a series of online seminars where speakers and participants engage in discussions about the current situation in Palestine. These sessions are especially important, as they address and condemn the genocide against the Palestinian people. I prepared flyers for each session and drafted social media posts alongside the rest of the team. This activity developed my design and copywriting skills, which are beneficial for communications activities in the project. After the session, I worked on a document compiling reflections from the event. The HIC GS team and I made notes about successes and areas for improvement for the next Teach-in Session. Using this document, we were able to create a plan to ensure smoother logistics in the subsequent session. Furthermore, I had my first in-person meeting with my supervisor, Diana Wachira, Learning Officer of HIC GS. She clarified concepts that were unclear and guided me through my work plan with the organization.

Although I did not meet with any participants at this time, I learned more about HIC’s work and its role in the Women’s Spaces Project. I gained a deeper understanding of how the General Secretariat supports other partners in the project and began assisting with a new activity. By developing a program for the one-on-one meetings between HIC and the partners, I am helping to support the partners in their work.

I flew from Cape Town to Johannesburg, stayed overnight in the city, and returned to Nairobi the following day. Though my stay was brief, I noticed many differences between Johannesburg and Cape Town, particularly in their geographical features.

In conclusion, my return to Nairobi marked the start of my new routine with HIC. Instead of working in person, I began a hybrid arrangement of remote and in-office work. This is very different from what I was used to, but I am adjusting well by staying connected to the HIC team through our meetings and communication channels.
